Bowling

Paulerspury Bowls Club meets every Tuesday in the village hall at 7.30pm. A small, friendly club which has just celebrated its 20th birthday, we are actively seeking new members to come along and join us.

If you have never heard of Short Mat Bowls then why not come along one Tuesday and see it for yourself? We can provide you with woods to use, all you need to bring is a pair of totally flat slippers or shoes suitable for walking on the mats.

So, what is Short Mat Bowls? Basically, it is a fun, sometimes frustrating, skilful, game played on a 45 feet long 6 feet wide mat with a block of wood half way up the mat which you have to bowl your woods around in order to get as close as possible to a small yellow jack at the other end.  More importantly it is a competitive, but always friendly game, that can be highly addictive, which anyone from 8 to 108 can play. It is a gentle form of exercise so is suitable for everyone.

The end of the winter season found us top of our division which means we will be playing in the Premier Division next season, something we are all looking forward to albeit with maybe a little trepidation.

Sunday August 18th sees us play host to four other clubs playing throughout the day for the Chrystal Cup Presentation Day. It has been a privilege to run this event this year and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the village hall to round the event off.

Our team of four are through to the final of the Earl Spencer Trophy, a tournament for the over 55’s played by clubs across the county. A successful season all round for our club. If you would like to have a go at Short Mat Bowls then please come along to the hall on a Tuesday evening and you will be made very welcome.
